Last week I played in

Last week I played in the Weymuller US open. I had been playing well leading up to the tournament and had Tania Bailey first round which was going to be a challenge. She was 4 in the world before her injury and has just come back. I lost the match in 4 games. Was a bit disappointed because I started off too defensive and should have won the 1st game but made some bad decisions at 8 all. It wasnt until the 3rd game I started attacking well and won the 3rd comfortably but lost the 4th in a tight 11/9 game. I learnt alot from the match and hopefully can take that into the Qatar open next week. I leave on Saturday from NY.

Hong Kong Open sorry about

Hong Kong Open
sorry about blog. been having some problems but should be all fixed up now.
In the first round I beat Sarah Kippax in 4 games. In the 4th game, at 8 all, I smacked myself in the leg while playing a shot and managed to cause it to bleed loads and had to have a 3 min blood stoppage. Fortunately I managed to win that game 11/9.
In the last 16, I lost against rachael grinham in 4. first game was too predictable which meant she was able to move me around and dominate play. so i changed it in second and mixed everything up which worked better and started moving forward onto her crosscourts. in third lost 11/9 and now kinda regret giving the blatant stroke away when i was 6/4 up and the refs called a let. to be fair, had i taken it, i wud have felt guilty and probably lost the game anyway. i figured karma wud kick in and let me win the game but noooooooo. needed to get off to better starts in each game as she always got the jump early. dont think ive ever won a game against her before.
back in new york now. have uni exam on 2nd Nov and preparing for Weymuller tournament which starts on the 5th nov. Ive been sick with the flu this week but I am getting better and back on court now.

World Open, The first round

World Open,

The first round of the world open saw me come up against Qualifier Aisling Blake. Being the first match of the first round of the worlds, I was a little nervous. We played on the glass court and as the match was scheduled at 1pm, I had real trouble seeing the ball due to the sun shining through the skylights in the stadium. This meant I couldnt volley as much as I wanted, and had a few moments of losing the ball and totally going the wrong direction (i think theres a really nice pic of me running into Aisling, when I went totally the opposite direction to the ball lol). Aisling really dug in and kept getting everything back. She took the fourth game which meant we had to play the decider. I was pretty fired up at that point and played well to win 11/1 in the fifth. This meant I played Nat Grinham in the second round.

Coming up against the home favourite, I was more relaxed as I didnt have as much pressure as Grinham did. I went in with a plan to slow the game down so it would stop Grinham's speed influencing the game. It didnt work so well in the first because the ball was hot and flying. I played better in the 2nd to go 5-1 up but couldnt maintain the lead and lost 11-8. The third I went up again 7-5 but again Natalie was very consistent and won 11-8. I feel I had a good game plan but didnt take advantage of chances. Although Im a little disappointed at losing, Nat played very well. I head back to New York on Sunday where I will be training for 3 weeks until I fly out to Hong Kong for the next tournament.

Ok so I was reminded

Ok so I was reminded I needed to blog (I need reminding). The last tournament I played was the NZ Open, which I have to say was the best run tournament Ive ever been to. The organisers thought of everything a squash player would need. Also the apartment on the beach was a ne touch. Anyway, I had to play Madeline Perry first round. I lost a tight 3/1. Losing the first games from a few unforced tins In the second comfortably. At 9 all in the 3rd game, Madeline hit a jag to go game ball up. I felt like nothing was going my way in the match and lost the last game 11/8. I felt I played well and was right in it but couldnt get those big points.

So now Im back in NY and it is time for the return of death training. After playing 6 weeks of competition, I knew I was out of shape and this week has proved it. The first is always the worst so I am thinking positive in knowing it can only better from here. Rod's death running session, including shuttles and hill sprints was tough and I am not looking forward to it on Tuesday. As the Worlds are 4 weeks away, I have upped training to 3 sessions a day so should be fit for Amsterdam.

Anyway, I am back in the swing of things and will blog again soon

hi everyone,

due to computer difficulties, i havent been able to blog for a while. i am now i singapore and played the first round last night against natalie grinham. with the very hot conditions, natalie was getting every ball back (she jus doesnt stop running) and i was not patient enough and lost in 3 games. next stop is a cold new zealand tomorrow, for the NZ Open. I will email again once im there

World Games: Taiwan

I am in the quarter finals of the world games where yesterday I defeated Camille Serme in 4 and last night beat Shelley Kitchen 3/2. After having a horrendous start and being two love down, I managed to scrape the 3rd 16/14 and then was able to get on top of Shelleyand move her around the court, winning the last game 11/2. I now play former Australian and world number 3, Natalie Grinham this afternoon. I will write soon to let you know of the result

Clare:

Unfortunately I have had another setback to the Australian Open, losing in the semi final to Joelle King in 5. I was two love down and got it back to two all but lost the final game. Although I was devastated because the Australian Open means so much to me, in a way, it was a good thing, because it has shown me that I need to reassess my training program and am going to work more closely with Michelle and Rod Martin in establishing a program. I have a lot of work to do and am hoping this will be the key to helping me make the break I so desperately want

I have arrived into Clare in preparation of the Australian Open, which starts on Thursday. Ive had a good preparation, spending 3 weeks in Brisbane training with the AIS before going to Melbourne for the Australian Doubles where I came second with Amelia Pittock in the womens event and 3rd in the mixed doubles with Ryan Cuskelly. We arrived into a cold Clare Valley on Saturday and have been hitting on the glass court. I feel like I am getting more used to playing on the glass court so I am looking forward to competition. I will write again with the tournament results

I lost to Natalie Grinham today in 3 games. I went into the match thinking I needed to play very straight and use the lob to get out of trouble. The problem with that was, because of the lighting, if I put the ball up, I couldnt track it and if she got onto the volley well, I basically had to guess where the ball was going. My length was short in the first game and I played better in the second, especially with the straight drive from the front, but got sucked into playing her short because I felt like she was always so out of position but she would manage to get there and put the ball away. I needed to be more patient. I am meant to fly out on Sunday back to Brisbane but I am hoping I can change my flight to tomorrow. Yayyyyy Im going home

So I won my match tonight against Samantha Teran 11/9 11/8 11/8. I jus tried to focus on staying relaxed in the match and it seemed to work well. It meant though, that I didnt volley as much, but I was hitting it alot tighter and moved her around better. I think it is a matter of finding a balance between being relaxed and putting pressure on by volleying. It is quite bouncy on the glass court and is hard to find the ball when it is up high in the lights. I play Natlaie Grinham tomorrow night so I will let you know how I go.
